When your mind blocks your success.
Breaking Through Fear: How Your Mindset Can Make or Break Your Success
I realized that I had a fear of success. I've always wanted to help people. I think that's why I'm doing a PhD in science. But the reality is that research is less about helping people and more about writing publications, getting grants and finally having the right or not to continue your project. To follow the rules and also to be in the good graces of your boss. So one day I decided that I didn't want to create my own 6-figure business. But how to do it, I had to invest in myself and take on coaches who sell, who give me their strategy, but when it comes to practicing for a long time, I get stuck. I find every way to keep myself busy, tidy my room, cook, clean or do the laundry. But the simple fact of picking up my phone and recording a video on either TikTok or YouTube stays with me. That's the fear of success. Hello, self-sabotage. Welcome to your podcast truth, have your tea or coffee. Let me know if you're more of a tea or coffee team.
The apprehension about success may seem paradoxical. Who wouldn't want more money, recognition, and effortless collaborations without endless searches on social media? Imagine customers purchasing your offers simply because you discuss them like the coaches you admire. This resonates with you, doesn't it?
So, what exactly is success anxiety? It's the fear of potential negative outcomes or changes when embarking on a new venture. This feeling can arise in entrepreneurship or when pursuing personal dreams like relocating or starting a family. It triggers a flood of emotions that can lead to self-sabotage or feeling stuck. This fear is often linked with perfectionism, impostor syndrome, guilt, and past experiences.
Here's an example scenario: You successfully lost weight a few years ago, but life challenges, stress, and emotional eating caused you to regain it. Now, you're determined to shed those pounds again. You watch what you eat and hit the gym, but struggle with daily bingeing. The root emotional issue that led to weight gain remains unresolved. Your body and ego work together to shield you by triggering protective behaviors.
This situation isn't unique and affects coaches at all levels, whether starting out or scaling up. Can you identify how it plays out? Transitioning from selling 1 or 2 products monthly to 50-100, instead of embracing further growth, emotions and self-sabotage kick in. You find yourself resting, halting promotions, avoiding discussing your offerings, and losing touch with your message.
How to Overcome Fear?
I have a differing opinion on the fear of success, which I believe is often used as an excuse to avoid pursuing our dreams. It's easier to blame external factors like algorithms, the audience, or lack of resources, instead of delving into the root cause and taking action. Many seek guidance from life coaches, spiritual mentors, or friends, but neglect to consult a business coach for advice on overcoming this fear and achieving financial success.
Here are some alternative approaches:
Avoid relying solely on positive affirmations.
Consider seeking therapy.
Practice patience.
While these methods can be effective, they may not be suitable for women entrepreneurs aiming for a 6-figure business and seeking to break free from the cycle of fluctuating between ambition and fear. This is for those determined individuals who are unsure about reaching their goals but persistently promote their offerings to their audience every day.
Here's my True mindset shift strategy :
To detach yourself from solely focusing on the bottom line, shift your attention to communicating with your dream client. What does this involve?
Instead of setting a monetary goal like 10k, envision your dream client as your closest friend. What information does she need to trust you and take the next step towards real transformation? This shift in mindset will help you overcome fear. Embrace positive affirmations to ease feelings of anxiety and worry. Start recognizing that you don't need to please everyone; instead, speak directly to your audience, and most importantly, to yourself. This approach will help you enjoy creating content and, ultimately, selling without feeling like you are selling. By speaking to your friend, you'll feel relieved of the pressure to convince her or worry about the right way to communicate – she's already onboard.
The second solution involves introspection:
Utilize your current experiences to craft content. There are others out there facing similar situations who may feel isolated. Many times, sharing personal stories has boosted my sales. People don't expect you to know everything, but they crave a connection; to feel acknowledged and understood, especially when presented with a new perspective. With my one-on-one clients, it's not just about strategies, but also about mindset, determining the energy to provide to customers, exploring limitations, and of course, incorporating 10% strategy. Then celebrate each step, a like, a comment, a sale, going to the gym meditating, or taking care of yourself. the journey is as important as the result. you grow, you change your mindset.
And do you celebrate your small wins?

This is great! I love the idea of thinking of my perfect client as a close friend. Great newsletter. Thank you for writing & sharing this! What kind of science are you studying? I was a chemistry major in college. Also, I love tea. I don’t drink coffee. 🙂☕️
