Stop the Spiral: How to Find Yourself Again and Build the Business and Life You Actually Want?
From burnout to breakthrough, use writing to face your fears and reconnect with what matters most.
A year ago, I started writing. I began on Medium, where I moved beyond pure strategy to explore deeper self-understanding. When I launched my business in 2020, I did it to escape burnout. I wanted to be my own boss and rebuild my self-confidence. But the plan faltered as I fell into comparison and imposter syndrome. Instead of focusing on what my ideal clients and I truly needed, I created content just to please others. I lost myself in strategy and silenced my intuition.
Through revisiting my writing, I reconnected with myself and clarified my vision. My clients often share my struggles, we all feel this need to prove our worth to others, usually at our own expense. While I help my clients understand they can choose their ideal customers, raise their prices, and design their perfect business model, I wasn't following this advice myself.
The Turning Point: Rediscovering My Voice
I've learned to build a business around my passions, discussing topics I care about and sharing my emotions without the constant pressure of the next post. I write when inspired while maintaining a steady rhythm. Writing helps us reconnect with ourselves, especially when we're stuck or avoiding our problems. It brings clarity to our thoughts. I understand the difficulty,I spent years avoiding my thoughts and problems for others' sake.
I help my clients understand they can:
Choose their dream customers
Raise their prices without guilt
Design a business model that feels deliciously right
Was I following my own advice? Absolutely not.
But this avoidance stunts both business and personal growth, leading to coping mechanisms like emotional eating, substance use, or compulsive shopping. Each year passes with the same question: "Why aren't I moving forward?" followed by that sinking feeling when someone asks about your progress.
From Instagram Hustle to Meaningful Connection
After countless failed Instagram growth strategies, I turned to writing. Not just any writing, the kind of long-form, soul-baring content that makes people pause, reflect, and feel something. The kind people wouldn't just scroll past in three seconds
A year of writing gave me something precious: permission. Permission to experiment, to reflect, to follow that whisper of intuition. My Substack became more than a platform,it became a community. And let me tell you, watching people engage with my articles, leaving comments that mirror my own experiences? Pure magic.
I've seen how the endless chase for subscribers and money leads people to compare themselves, feel alone, and doubt themselves after following "guru" advice.
Breaking Free from the Hustle Mentality
While we often focus on the negative, recognizing our need to reconnect through writing can help us find our community and voice. Coaches often say you must "embody your transformation," and it's true, if you reject yourself, it shows.
Coaches love saying, "embody your transformation"and they're not wrong. If you're rejecting yourself, it shows. Loud and clear.
Success isn't about:
Perfect results
A specific body type
Your geographical location
It's about:
Trusting your voice
Building rock-solid self-esteem
Facing challenges head-on
Stepping out of the people-pleasing role
I've realized it's not about results, weight, or location. It's about trusting your voice, building self-esteem, and facing your challenges head-on. This means accepting yourself and stepping out of the people-pleasing role to claim your authentic space.
It's about developing that "don't give a f***" energy, knowing you're living your truth regardless of others' opinions. When you show up authentically, you'll naturally attract people who:
Resonate with your energy
Want to invest in what you offer
Celebrate your unique path
Simply be yourself and get paid for your truth, whether as a coach, influencer, or someone achieving their dream weight or travel goals.

Finding yourself again is the key to grow your business that people will like you no just your offer
Hey Alicia! Thank you for sharing this. I genuinely believe that one way to express gratitude for the life we’ve been given is to live it to the fullest. We can achieve this by embracing our own truths instead of merely accepting the opinions and ideals of others. This is really nice 😊
