Being Lost in your business is the best way to attract high standard clients
How Ditching Cookie-Cutter Strategies Can Skyrocket Your Coaching Business
Being a coach can be incredibly stressful, especially when you're constantly bombarded by social media gurus boasting about their massive monthly earnings or rapid follower growth. If you're not seeing the same results, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking your content is subpar or that you're not vibrating at the frequency of a true leader. With so much information out there, I found myself lost and losing my own voice. But what if losing yourself is actually the best thing for your business? What if losing your business is the best way to attract self-led clients who want to witness your evolution?
If you're reading this, you're likely searching for a solution to rediscover yourself, align your business, and attract clients who want to buy your offer. The main issue stems from listening to too many coaches - I know because I did the same thing until July. I was part of four different memberships, trying to grow my business using Pinterest, TikTok, and Instagram. People told me to do masterclasses, post multiple times a day, or run paid ads. Creating content became so stressful that I'd spend hours scrolling through TikTok to find the perfect hook. I'd film myself robotically or spend entire days on Canva trying to design an aesthetic feed or write a carousel post.
I realized I needed to come back to myself and remember the fundamental reason why I started my business in the first place. I had forgotten my "why." Sometimes, you feel lost because you're so focused on fitting in. You dream of living from your passion - writing a book, hosting your own conferences, building retreats, or running a six-figure business - all while helping others by creating a community where people feel safe. As a teenager, I loved writing songs and dreamed of authoring a book. But societal pressure led me to become a scientist to help others. During this time, I started a personal blog sharing my journey through my Ph.D. Writing was always on my mind.
Becoming the woman who has her dream business and the life she deserves requires accepting that I'm lost in both my personal and business journeys. Finding yourself is more than just journaling; it's about testing, accepting failure, and embarking on a self-compassion journey. I decided to start a 90-day challenge to find myself.
Paradoxically, I attracted more people when I shared this journey. People started commenting on my posts and signing up for my two Substack newsletters and my freebie. I'm so grateful for your readership and for being part of my community. I began attracting more women like me - high achievers who are afraid but want to build a six-figure business while also amplifying their own voice, taking up space, and creating their own definition of success. I started receiving the kind of comments I'd dreamed of since starting my business - people engaging, sharing, and taking action because they, like me, are action-takers who move forward even when afraid. I'm thrilled to share this with you.
Sometimes, being lost is the best way to attract self-led clients. People no longer want to follow others solely because they make $50K per week or claim to have taught millions of clients. They want reliability and connection through your story. Your story is the key to creating a community that cares about you and will stick with you through thick and thin. What I love about Substack is that it feels like a place to experiment and find my own voice. I really want to move away from perfectionism. Since I've been sharing what I want to share, experimenting, and finding my own path - with less focus on strategy - I'm having fun. It's 4:00 AM as I write these words, and I feel happy. It's sweltering in Paris, but I'm having more fun than I've had since starting my business four years ago.
We need to understand that being lost doesn't mean you're incompetent. The problem is that we're made to feel inadequate about our lack of results or small successes because we haven't yet reached our final goal. But there are people who want your current transformation because you're just one or a few steps ahead of them. You can always talk about your offers and what you're going through because you never know - you might find clients who appreciate your honesty. Yes, people buy with their emotions if they feel connected and seen, and if you have the solution to their problem, the fact that you're lost is just a detail. If you want more guidance for creating your personal branding and create the true content to attract your first clients, join my 5-days challenge.
If you're lost in business, I advise returning to yourself and your safe place. For me, it's writing. What's yours?
